HARARE – A total of 156 Harare Institute of Public Health (HIPH) Class of 2022 students on Saturday graduated with certificates after completing studies in public health and pharmacy practice with the institution.

The ceremony, held at a top hotel in Harare, was presided over by Higher and Tertiary Education Ministry Chief Director Human Capital, Planning and Skills Development Professor Norman Rudhumbu who was standing in for minister Professor Amon Murwira.

In his speech, Minister Murwira lauded the school for producing graduands he said shall play a part in human capital development in the country.

He also affirmed government’s continued support towards the institution’s efforts tailored towards inventing homegrown solutions to public health question in Zimbabwe.

He added, “We firmly believe in solutions towards resolving local challenges.

“This is the basis behind heritage-based Education 5.0 design, a five-year mission model of teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialization established to move the country forward towards an innovation-led and knowledge-driven economy.

“Under heritage based Education 5.0, institutions of higher learning, as demonstrated by what we are witnessing today must launch into outcomes-focused national development activities towards a competitive, modern, and industrialised Zimbabwe.”

The minister also hailed HIPH for creating home grown solutions in the provision of health labour force in the country.

Speaking at the same event, HIPH Principal, Dr Amos Marume chronicled the various initiatives being undertaken by the institution in terms of leveraging local production capacity and strengthening medicine supply chains.

“HIPH has also contributed significantly in coming up with courses that if implemented fully, will help standardize our traditional medicines and practice for more access and mainstreaming of indigenous knowledge based solutions to our overburdened public health systems,” he said.

Dr Marume also said the “institution has developed and collaborated with local and international institutions to offer various professional development courses relevant to strengthening the country’s health systems such as leadership and management in health, clinical management of HIV, Health Economics, implementation research”.

Saturday’s graduation was the second for the HIPH class of 2022.
