HARARE – At least 18 people were killed in separate road traffic accidents between Friday and Sunday, police have said.

In a Sunday statement, police said out of the 18 fatalities, 12 were recorded in one bus accident along the Chivhu-Murambinda road early Sunday.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident in which a Harare bound Timboom bus which had 40 passengers crashed at the five kilometre peg along Chivhu-Murambinda Road on 16/04/23 at 0630 hours. 12 people including the driver died. Police details are still attending to the accident,” police said.

In another accident which happened along Murehwa-Madicheche road on Friday, police said at around 9am, a motorist who was driving a Toyota Quantum vehicle, with eight occupants, lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road and overturned several times before landing on its wheels.

As a result of the accident, two people died on the spot and two upon admission at Murewa Hospital.

Police said four others were severely injured on the same date, at around 8pm, in another accident along Harare-Masvingo road.

In the incident, a motorist driving a Toyota Prado vehicle towards Harare collided head-on with VW Polo going the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, three people died, while seven others were injured.

Two other people were killed while 22 others were injured after a Binga-bound bus crashed at the 50-kilometre peg along Lubimbi-Kariyangwe Rd, Kamativi, on Friday around 1pm.
