OLA lovelies! How’re all the fabulous fashionistas doing?

Lately big brands have been trending a lot and the bigger and more visible the logo, the more popular the pieces being bought. I love trends but trends make you feel confused about your own wardrobe and I have to say the more true you stay to yourself the more you will enjoy your closet and save yourself some hella coins.

If you don’t know how to build your wardrobe, here are some few tips to follow to get yourself a wardrobe that is timeless and classy. Enjoy!

Know your shape

This is very important, you need to know your build and shape so that you can wear silhouettes that will flatter you and make you look and feel good. There are a diverse number of shapes and sizes and we are all beautiful and there’s always that style that will forever flatter each and every shape.

First base

Great underwear is like a great primer for my make-up lovers. Primer lays a good base for you to put on your make-up and make it look good. It’s the same with good underwear. It gives you a great start to a promising outfit. Fitting bras and appropriate knickers or panties is a great base for any outfit.

Well tailored

I cannot emphasize enough how tailoring is important in building a great wardrobe. A standard size 38 or 26 does not cater for the average size 38 or 26. Tailoring allows you to have things made specifically for your shape and your attributes. Even if you buy a piece you love from a boutique or online, you can always go to your local tailor and have tweaks done that will make your pieces more fitted for you.

Invest in classics and basics

Fashion is recycled over and over again. Each generation having a new name for things that have been there for yonks. There are always classic pieces that always never go out of fashion like your little black dress, a crisp white shirt, a tailored blazer, fitting slacks, pencil skirts, three good pairs of jeans etc. These are timeless pieces that you can wear for years and years and they still look as appealing as they did when you brought them home. Classic pieces are worth the investment and you can always buy them through the years. I guarantee you, they are worth it.

A good pair of jeans and a basic white tee paired with a tailored blazer and white heels. I can always dress this down with a pair of sneakers or pumps.

This little black dress is amazing because I can wear it day and night. Altering my accessories and make-up will take this from a day look to a snazzy look for dinner or any event really. These pants are not only comfortable but forgiving. They are comfortable and the colour is beautiful and can be mixed and matched with different pieces to create any look.

Accessorize

Shoes, bags, hats, jewelry. These are subtle things that make or break your outfits. Comfortable shoes are key. We can have one pair of killer heels (literally) but we need comfort strong shoes that we can glide in and catwalk in – no-one wants to be looking like a new born calf in heels. Flat shoes are also a must, one good pair of sneakers, pumps or loafers and a cute pair of sandals and you’re good to go. Always stick to colors that you can wear with other colors such as black, brown, white or navy blue. This will ensure you can pull off different looks with one pair of shoes.

Bags can be the fun accessory. I love bags and I think we are allowed to play a little and show our cheeky side with fun, colorful bags of all shapes and sizes. Invest in good bags that you can use at work but also have those bags that make you smile and excited for a day out.

There you have it ladies! Fashion is a form of expression of self. Stay true to yourself and your pocket. You can be fashionable in an affordable way by building your wardrobe around basics that you can dress up or dress down.

Stay classy! Stay fabulous!
