HARARE – Vice President Kembo Mohadi is back on the mend, although he has difficulty walking unaided.

Mohadi disappeared from the public eye in June after a grenade exploded inches from him during a Zanu PF rally at Bulawayo’s White City Stadium.

He underwent surgery in South Africa to remove shrapnel from his right leg.

Mohadi attended his first national public engagement when he turned up at the National Sports Stadium for the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day celebrations on Tuesday.

He walked gingerly to the VIP tent with the aid of a single crutch in his right hand. A mystery woman sat by his side. Mohadi’s divorce from his first wife, Tambudzani, went through late last year.

Mohadi was one of several government officials wounded in the explosion on January 23. His security aide was one of two people to be killed.

Cabinet Minister Oppah Muchinguri and the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Marble Chinomona also underwent treatment in South Africa.

Investigators have made little headway in trying to apprehend a suspect. President Emmerson Mnangagwa, last week, surprised the country when he stated that he knew who carried out the attack.

“We now have the knowledge on who did it. We want the current (electoral) processes to pass then we will deal with that matter,” he said, referring to a court challenge by his opposition MDC rival Nelson Chamisa to his narrow presidential election victory.
