BULAWAYO – The Voice UK breakthrough Zimbabwean teen, Donel Mangena, has arrived in Bulawayo on holiday.

Donel, 16, arrived at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport on Friday afternoon aboard a South African Airways flight from Johannesburg to wild scenes from delighted fans and family.

His grandmother, Nita Mangena, was also at the airport to receive him.

Donel, who was runner-up to the hit British TV music talent show, The Voice in April, posted pictures of himself meeting his family and fans on Twitter.

In one tweet, he said: “Nothing can beat family.”

Donel recently released his first single after The Voice titled ‘Bang Like a Drum’ featuring London rappers Swarmz and Shaadow Sefiroth. The video was approaching 250,000 10 days after it went up on YouTube.

Nkosana Mangena, Donel’s father, said they would be in Zimbabwe for two weeks before returning to the UK.

On Saturday, Donel stopped at the Red Café bar in central Bulawayo where he was mobbed by fans.

He was due to be interviewed on the Skyz Metro FM breakfast show hosted by funnyman Babongile Sikhonjwa on Monday, August 20.

After coming second in The Voice, Donel – who has a recording contract with American singer and The Voice judge, Will.I.Am – was invited to perform at Queen Elizabeth’s 92nd birthday.

During his stay in Bulawayo, he will live with his grandmother in Luveve suburb where he spent his early years before going to England.
