DURBAN – Music legend Oliver Mtukudzi surprised a lifelong fan by responding to their tweet with an invitation to meet for breakfast.

It started off with this tweet from a man using the handle @Am_Blujay, who real name is Winston Manjengwa.

“The biggest Tuku fan I know since birth, my Dad can’t wait to meet @TukuOfficial this Friday in Durban. After his permanent move from Zimbabwe, he missed so many shows. He is excited he can’t stop talking about it.”

Then Mtukudzi, a veteran of over 50 albums, melted hearts with his classy response.

“Please ask him if he is free for breakfast on Friday,” he tweeted back.

On 10 August, just as he promised, Mtukudzi was sitting down having lunch with Wilfred Manjengwa at his hotel in Durban.

Winston posted an update with pictures of the two men sitting down for their meal. Breakfast had turned into lunch.

“He made a promise and he kept it. Thanks, a big thank you to the Legend Oliver Mtukudzi for taking my dad to lunch today, 50+ plus albums to date yet you remain humble and make your fans feel special,” Winston tweeted.

Back came Mtukudzi: “Thank you for being a good son to him. We are now ready for the show tonight. Hatisati tapedza hedu.”

Mtukudzi was performing at The Warehouse in Durban later that day.

Meanwhile, the Bvuma star became the first foreign artist to win the OppiKoppi Music Festival Heavyweight Legend Award. He also became the first foreigner to headline the OppiKoppi Music Festival held at Northam in Limpopo from 9-11 August.
