HARARE – NetOne CEO Lazarus Muchenje has been suspended without pay, days after he sued the Minister for Information Technology Supa Mandiwanzira for meddling in the company’s operations.

NetOne board chairman Peter Chingoka said Muchenje had been suspended for terminating the contracts of senior management without reference to the board.

In July, Muchenje sent nine top executives home, among them chief operating officer Brian Mutandiro and chief finance officer Sibusisiwe Ndlovu. The board ordered their reinstatement, arguing that it had not been consulted. Muchenje responded by suing the board and dragging Minister Mandiwanzira into the boardroom battle, accusing him of meddling in the company’s operations.

Nkosinathi Ncube, the managing director for mobile financial services, is the acting CEO.

In a letter to Muchenje on Tuesday, Chingoka said: “The board shall immediately investigate the above allegations after which you shall be informed of the results of the investigations.

“You are directed to hand over all company assets in your possession to Mr. Toro immediately upon being served this letter.”
