HARARE – MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s chief election agent and party chairman Morgen Komichi was told Tuesday he would go on trial on October 3, 2018, charged with elections offences.

Komichi is accused of violating the Electoral Act after he allegedly interrupted the announcing of the 2018 presidential election results on August 2 at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) command centre.

Section 186 of the Electoral Act says it is unlawful to interrupt, obstruct or disturb proceedings related to the announcement of results.

He is represented by Jeremiah Bamu and Obey Shava of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa said during a break in announcing results, Komichi stepped to the front of the room and declared: “I did not sign those results, so the results are fake. The results have just been printed and they have not been verified by the polling agents and we are the polling agents and we have not done that.

“The polling agents verified the results from… the presidential results are constituency-based results and the constituency results have not been announced and verified.

“We held a meeting today with the CEO and we agreed on the process and the process was not followed. Thank you very much you have our position.”

The state said his utterances that the results were fake and not verified was unlawful.

Komichi denies the allegations. He is yet to submit his defence outline.

Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa gave the MDC Alliance politician his trial date.
