BULAWAYO – A Bulawayo man has been arrested for allegedly insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

David Ndlovu, a commuter omnibus driver, was released on free bail following his arrest last Friday, according to his lawyer Dixon Abraham of Tanaka Law Chambers.

He will appear before a Bulawayo magistrate on Tuesday charged with “disorderly conduct in a public place”.

Ndlovu, of Evelyne Road in Saucerstown, is set to appear in court for calling President Mnangagwa a “dog.”

Sibekezile Jele, of Makokoba, is the complainant.

It is alleged that on September 6, at Puma Service Station at corner Lobengula Street and 6th Avenue in Bulawayo, Jele approached a street hawker intending to buy paraffin.

He asked the vendor why the paraffin was expensive, to which Ndlovu interjected and said in Ndebele: “Wena hantsho wavota wathi ED Pfee, sizabona ukuthi inja yenu leyo izalenzelani.

His phrase translates to “you voted for ED, we’ll see what that dog of yours is going to do for you.”

Jele then proceeded to Mzilikazi police where he made a police report.

Ndlovu denies the charges and claims he had been talking to his friend, a Banda, who is a paraffin vendor.

“I greeted him saying “ED Pfee”. That’s how we greet each other,” he said in his defence.
