HARARE – Vice President Kembo Mohadi’s estranged wife, Tambudzani, has approached the High Court challenging a civil court’s decision to grant a protection order in favour of her estranged husband.

She complained that the lower court’s decision was “vague and unreasonable” in summons filed on Tuesday.

She also claimed Mohadi was not in his right senses when he filed the restraining application against her.

Mohadi triggered divorce proceedings at the Bulawayo High Court in September 2017. The matter is yet to be finalised, with Tambudzani challenging.

“The proceedings before the first respondent (civil court provincial magistrate) were grossly irregular in that a protection order was granted, which deals with rights to immovable properties which are in excess of $300,000 each, an amount way in excess of the jurisdiction of the magistrates courts,” she argues.

“The decision by the first respondent is grossly outrageous in its defiance of logic that no sensible person who has applied his mind to the question to be decided could have arrived at this.”

Mohadi was cited as the second respondent.

Tambudzani said it was not fair that the order barred her from accessing her matrimonial assets which are subject of the divorce proceedings.

It was unreasonable for the court to bar her from accessing the matrimonial home she lives at as well as their business premises, she argued.

Mohadi last month told a court that he now feared for his life after receiving threats from Tambudzani.

Mohadi then approached the Civil Court in Harare seeking a protection order against her and an order barring the Beitbridge Senator from selling the couple’s matrimonial property before finalisation of their divorce matter.

The couple got married in 1981 under Marriage Act, (Chapter 5:11) before separating in 1999, and Mohadi claims that since then, his life has been a “living hell”.

The VP further said his wife had even gone to the extent of influencing their children to turn against him and to also participate in disposing of the couple’s matrimonial property despite the pending High Court matter.

Mohadi said Tambudzani abused him since they got married in 1981 but he stood with her thinking she would change.

Mohadi has moved in with a  new woman Juliet Mutavhatsindisince since last year. She now appears by Mohadi’s side at official events, and is introduced as “Mrs Mohadi”.
