HARARE – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has appeared in public for the first time following reports that he had been hospitalised.

The 62-year-old reportedly left a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday after saying he was not feeling well. He was treated at the Avenues Clinic in Harare, according to The Daily News.

On Thursday, he turned up for a regular Zanu PF politburo meeting at the party’s headquarters.

His left hand was visibly swollen, but he betrayed no physical health inhibitions.

Foreign Minister Sibusiso Moyo, who had been hospitalised since September 19, also at Avenues Clinic, was flown to South Africa on Thursday after his health deteriorated.

The 58-year-old is battling kidney failure.

Chiwenga and his wife, Mary, have been losing their skin pigmentation and both have been seen with swollen hands and feet.

Chiwenga spoke about their mystery illness in May, but he said doctors had failed to treat the condition.

Mary, meanwhile, also has a heart condition and security sources say she is receiving regular treatment.
