HARARE – The ZBC’s suspended head of news and current affairs Tazzen Mandizvidza is being hauled before a disciplinary committee, allegedly for writing to President Emmerson Mnangagwa claiming unfair treatment by the state broadcaster’s management.
In a letter to Mandizvidza dated December 3, seen by ZimLive, the ZBC accuses Mandizvidza of “inappropriately” writing to Mnangagwa with his grievances.
“Sometime in January 2018 you inappropriately wrote to His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe, without valid reason. In that letter, you raised employment related grievances against your superiors and consequently undermined the employment relationship as well as your duty of subordination,” the ZBC said.
Mandizvidza had breached the ZBC employment code of conduct through “an act, conduct or omission grossly inconsistent with the fulfilment of express or implied conditions of one’s contract.”
In October, the ZBC suspended Mandizvidza without pay after the corporation said he had failed to honour an out of court settlement reached in 2015 in which the journalist, then on suspension, was to be re-instated and in return he would reimburse the state broadcaster over $1 million lost in bad financial transactions made under his watch.
The ZBC CEO Patrick Mavhura said the board had noted that the out-of-court settlement to recover $1,083,000 million had “yielded no results”.
