GWANDA – A cross-border bus carrying over 50 passengers veered off the road but avoided a nasty collision with trees after a trailer became detached.

The accident happened in Maphane, some 10km before Gwanda town in Matabeleland South on Wednesday morning.

Police said there were no serious injuries to the passengers after the bus driver heroically brought it to a stop, but not before running over some rocks and tree stumps on the side of the road.

The bus suffered damage to the front while the trailer – which was flipped over – came to rest about 50 meters from the bus.

The Mzansi Express bus was coming from Johannesburg, South Africa, heading to Bulawayo.
