VICTORIA FALLS – The former Victoria Falls mayor, Sifiso Mpofu, and two other men have been arrested after being found in possession of 120kg of ivory.

The trio were detained on Thursday night and a pistol had also been recovered, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) said.

“We have busted a poaching syndicate, which has led to the arrest of three people,” ZimParks spokesman Tinashe Farawo told ZimLive.

“They were in illegal possession of 11 pieces of tusks weighing about 120kg. We also recovered a pistol. They are expected to appear in court soon.”

The trio were arrested in a joint operation by the police and game rangers.

Mpofu was Victoria Falls mayor between 2013 and 2018.
