HARARE – Suspended Chief Magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe has approached a court seeking an adjustment of his bail conditions.

Guvamombe is accused of offering internship to former Cabinet ministers Supa Mandiwanzira and Saviour Kasukuwere at the civil division of the Harare Magistrates’ Courts knowing that the two would be privileged to access documents that could impact on their pending criminal cases.

His application however could not be heard after prosecutor Zivanai Macharaga requested for it in writing.

“This case was coming for variation of bail conditions. The State is however asking for a postponement to allow the accused to file a written application before we respond,” said the prosecutor.

The case was then postponed with consent from both parties.

Guvamombe’s lawyer, Jonathan Samkange, hinted that his client needs his passport.

Guvamombe is also charged with defeating the course of justice after he allegedly ordered a Harare magistrate, Elijah Makomo, to recuse himself in a trial involving his business partner’s son.

Magistrate Bianca Makwande postponed the matter to June 19 for ruling.

Guvamombe also recently applied for the relaxation of his reporting conditions. Initially, he had barred from travelling 50km outside Harare without the authority of the investigating officer and to report to the police three times a week amongst other stringent conditions.

However, he successfully applied for the cancellation of the 50km travel restriction. His reporting conditions were also relaxed to once every week on Mondays.
