HARARE – The Harare Polytechnic has suspended a lecturer for criticising President Emmerson Mnangagwa, lawyers said.

Amos Dauzeni, a lecturer in the tourism department, was accused of “misconduct for allegedly denigrating President Mnangagwa by stating that he had mismanaged the country’s economy resulting in the payment of poor salaries to government workers,” the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said on Friday.

Dauzeni allegedly made the comments during a conversation with a soldier, Simbarashe Muti.

Over a dozen Zimbabweans have been arrested and charged with “undermining the authority of the president” for making critical comments about Zimbabwe’s autocratic leader.

The human rights lawyers are now preparing to help Dauzeni fight the suspension.
