LONDON, England – Marvelous Nakamba will officially become the most expensive Zimbabwean footballer when he completes his £11 million move to English Premier League side Aston Villa.

Nakamba was due to undergo a medical at Villa on Thursday after a fee was agreed with his Belgian side, Club Brugge. He is Villa’s 10th signing of the summer.

Nakamba had gone on strike for force a move after Club Brugge rejected Villa’s first offer last month.

The 25-year-old’s transfer fee is more than double the £5 million Manchester City paid for Benjani Mwaruwari in 2008.

The midfielder featured for Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations finals but got injured in their opening match, a 1-0 defeat to hosts Egypt. He would go on to miss the rest of the tournament.

Nakamba, who originally hails from Hwange, played his club football in Zimbabwe for Bantu Rovers before joining French club Nancy in 2012.

He joined Vitesse in Belgium in 2014 before moving to Club Brugge in 2017, winning the league title in his debut season.
