HARARE – The vice chairman of the roads agency, ZINARA, has resigned in a growing storm over alleged flouting of tender procedures.
Runyararo Jambo resigned on October 28 in a letter to Transport Minister Joel Matiza.
Citing “personal and professional reasons”, the lawyer said he was “unable to continue” in the role.
Jambo’s departure follows sharp differences on the board over a security tender handpicked by board chairman Michael Madanha outside the official tendering process.
The Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) awarded a tender to guard ZINARA tollgates and installations to two companies, Modern Security and Real Star Security Company, but Madanha is accused of arm-twisting the board to give the tender to a Zanu PF-linked company.
Ex-Combatants Security Services, whose directors include former Energy and Power Development deputy minister Tsitsi Muzenda, former Zanu PF legislator Tranos Huruva, ex-Zanu PF Glen View South 2018 primary election candidate Steven Hurungudo, Thomas Mwazha and Douglas Munangwa, has been awarded the contract for a year by resolution of the board.
PRAZ CEO Nyasha Chizu said they were seeking more information from ZINARA over the tender.
Disgruntlement has already boiled over, however, with Jambo’s resignation signalling splits on the board.
