HARARE – CAPS United midfielder Josta Ngodzo was crowned the 2019 Soccer Star of the Year during an awards banquet in Harare on Friday night.

Ralph Kawondera of Triangle was the first runner-up and Prince Dube, the free-scoring Highlanders striker, was second runner-up.

Highlanders shot stopper Ariel Sibanda won goalkeeper of the year at the event hosted by league sponsors, Delta Beverages, through their Castle Lager brand.

His team may be out of premier league title contention but Chicken Inn boss Joey Antipas won Coach of the Year Coach of the year.

Highlanders’ Andrew Mbeba was voted Most Promising Player of the Year.

Brighton Chimene was named Referee of the Year. Faith Mloyi and Salani Ncube were first and second runner-up respectively.

For the first time in the history of the awards, selectors were not in the same room but voted electronically. Auditors from Delta Beverages then tallied the votes.

Taking part in the voting process were the 18 coaches, 18 captains and 41 sports journalists from around the country.
