HARARE – Zimbabwe international striker Tino Kadewere has joined top French league side Lyon for a reported fee of €15 million (about US$16.5 million).

Second tier Le Havre, for whom Kadewere has scored 18 times in 20league matches this season, announced the sale on January 22.

“Le Havre Athletic Club confirms having reached an agreement with Lyon, for the transfer of Tino Kadewere. However, the current top scorer of Domino’s Ligue 2 will remain at HAC in the form of a loan until the end of the season,” a statement from Le Havre said.

Le Havre are chasing promotion into Ligue 1 and they had made it clear any deal for Kadewere would involve a loan-back.

Kadewere joined Le Havre from Swedish side, Djurgarden, in 2018 for a reported fee of €2 million.

The striker featured for Harare City in the Premier Soccer League in Zimbabwe shortly after finishing school at Prince Edward High School in Harare, before moving to Sweden.

He has been capped 14 times by Zimbabwe.
