HARARE – Marry Mubaiwa faces a fresh arrest, this time accused of assaulting her children’s nanny.

The 38-year-old former model wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is currently out on bail after she was charged with money laundering and attempted murder over an alleged plot to kill Chiwenga while he was hospitalised in South Africa last year.

Police say they have received a report of assault filed by Delight Munyoro, the couple’s 36-year-old child minder following an incident that happened at Hellenic School in Borrowdale on Tuesday. The couple’s two eldest children attend the school.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the police spokesman, said Mubaiwa reportedly wanted access to the children leading to a confrontation with Munyoro.

“We have instituted investigations into the matter and so far no arrests have been made. We are yet to locate the accused person,” Nyathi said.

Chiwenga took custody of the couple’s three children aged eight, seven and five following Mubaiwa’s arrest on December 14 last year.

After her release, she was blocked from returning to the matrimonial home and other properties by soldiers at the behest of Chiwenga.

The High Court last week gave Chiwenga 48-hours to return the children to their mother, and to also restore her access to family properties.

Justice Christopher Dube Banda accused Chiwenga of being a law onto himself by taking unlawful actions without a court order.

The retired army general’s conduct had potential to “bring the standing of the status of the rule of law in Zimbabwe into serious disrepute,” the judge said.

The judge added that “it is unacceptable and anathema to the constitutional values of this jurisdiction that the military may be used to settle a matrimonial dispute.”

Chiwenga immediately appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court, effectively suspending the ruling of the lower court.
