HARARE – The ZBC is pursuing its former CEO Patrick Mavhura, seeking to recover a vehicle issued to him before his inglorious ouster and arrest last year.

In court papers, the broke public broadcaster is seeking the return of a Chevrolet Trailblazer which was given to Mavhura for his use during his term.

ZBC company secretary Patricia Muchengwa said in a court filing on Monday that Mavhura had ignored all attempts to reach him and arrange the voluntary return of the US$25,000 car.

“Applicant (ZBC)  is in the broadcasting business with a constitutional mandate to provide public services. The vehicle is a public resource and key asset to ensure delivery on a day to day basis. The conduct of the respondent (Mavhura) in refusing to surrender the vehicle has severely hampered applicant’s work,” Muchengwa said in their application filed at the Harare High Court.

ZBC is seeking an order authorising the Deputy Sheriff to seize the vehicle from Mavhura.

“The vehicle is not for sale. It is required for day to day operations of the applicant in fulfilment of its constitutional obligations. There is no justifiable reason for respondent to retain possession of the applicant’s assets,” said Muchengwa.

Mavhura was fired last year and shortly after arrested, allegedly for stealing from the broadcaster.
