HARARE – The Covid-19 death toll in Zimbabwe climbed to six on Sunday, the ministry of health announced after two more people succumbed to the lung illness.

The total Covid-19 cases in the country was 489, including 64 recoveries.

The latest deaths were two women aged 79 and 60, health authorities announced.

The 79-year-old died in a Bulawayo hospital on Saturday after testing positive for Covid-19 on June 17.

“She had other co-morbidities,” the ministry of health said in an update.

The 60-year-old woman was from Midlands province who tested positive on June 19 “following routine swabbing.” She died at home.

Zimbabwe had tested 26,857 people for the virus as at June 21.

The Covis-19 cases have risen sharply, coinciding with the easing of lockdown regulations by the government to allow businesses to re-open.
