KADOMA – Former AmaZulu and Eiffel Flats midfielder-cum-striker Saidi Saidi was crushed to death by a truck in a freak workplace accident Friday morning.

His former mentor at Eiffel Flats Raphael Phiri announced the tragic news in a soccer WhatsApp group, saying Saidi fell off a moving vehicle in Sanyati where he worked for the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA).

The truck crushed his head, killing him instantly.

“On a sad note ndatumirwa shoko naMartin Saidi muning’ina waSaidi Saidi achiti he died this morning ari kubasa kuArda paSanyati. (I’ve been informed by Saidi’s young brother Martin that Saidi died this morning at his workplace at Arda,” Phiri announced.

“Hanzi adonha mu-motor ndokubva atsikwa musoro ne vhiri remotor ndomafiro aita muningina wedu. (He fell off a moving vehicle and his head was crushed. This is how our young brother died).”

The Kadoma-born Premier Soccer League (PSL) player started his career years ago with Eiffel Flats but later moved to Delama Lupepe’s AmaZulu at the turn of the millennium where he used his rather robust frame to take on defenders.

At AmaZulu Saidi played alongside former mercurial Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda, Herbert Dick, Norman Komani, the late Richard March, and Mkhupali Masuku.
