BULAWAYO – Parts of Bulawayo’s central business district are still without power following a crippling electrical fault that plunged the city into darkness late on Monday, forcing some businesses to revert to generators while stranding others.

The outage also affected a few residential areas, ZESA acting Western region manager Engineer Loyd Jaji said, adding that their engineers were pulling out all the stops to restore power.

“There was a fault at Belmont Substation yesterday but we are working flat out to reconnect the suburbs,” Jaji told ZimLive.

“The fault has also affected areas like Suburbs, Woodlands, and Ilanda. We are sincerely sorry to our customers.”

It remained unclear if the technical fault was linked to incessant rains that pounded the city throughout the weekend.

Bulawayo has experienced relentless interruptions to its power supply this rainy season with many areas, especially residential areas going for days without electricity.

Hospitals and other critical infrastructure have also not been spared.
