HARARE – Police investigating the brutal murder of two school children in Mutasa, Manicaland, say they have arrested two men aged 23 and 59.

Melissa and Daniel Benza, both aged seven, left home for school at about 6AM on April 13 and never returned.

A search party found their bodies in a toilet pit of an abandoned homestead in Sambadza Village a day later. They had been murdered.

Police said their bodies were intact but their uniforms had blood stains. Both boys had deep cuts on their necks.

In a statement on Sunday, police announced that they had made arrests.

“Clothes and a small hoe with suspected blood stains were recovered from the suspects’ homes. Investigations are in progress,” police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

The motive for the killings is still unknown.
