BINDURA – Police have arrested a suspected serial child rapist in Bindura, Mashonaland Central province, ending his depraved rampage after raping five minors.

Kwaramasi Kwaramasi, 38, preyed on his victims – all minors – using the same modus operandi: he would ask them to show him the way while pretending to be lost, before pouncing and raping them in secluded bushes, police said

The ages of the victims were not disclosed. While residents in the small town can now breathe a sigh of relief, police urged vigilance and caution.

“Police urge parents and guardians not to leave the girl child at home alone or in the custody of male relatives and neighbours. All rape cases must be reported promptly at any nearest police station,” police spokesman Paul Nyathi advised.

Meanwhile, Nyathi called on commuters to be “wary of boarding unmarked vehicles, mushikashika vehicles or private vehicles” after two travelers were separately robbed of cash and property worth more than US$2,000 on Thursday.

“At about 22:30, a Harare man, 25, boarded an unmarked silver Honda Fit with two occupants along Samora Machel Ave destined for Dzivarasekwa and was later robbed of property worth US$1,910,” he said.

And “at about 20:04 hours, a Chitungwiza man, 34, boarded an unmarked silver Nissan Caravan vehicle at Mbudzi Roundabout destined for home and was robbed of property valued at US$292.”
