HARARE – Just months after turning her back on the MDC Alliance and joining Zanu PF, former lawmaker Lillian Timveos has been rewarded with a seat on the PetroTrade board announced on Thursday.

Energy Minister Zhemu Soda named the new board which is chaired by lawyer Tino Chinyoka, who was a member of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legal team in a 2018 Constitutional Court challenge by MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa to his narrow election victory.

Timveos, who defected in February, was named on the body with Zanele Dube, Simba Mhuriro, Gladys Mumhure, Ferida Matambo, Getrude Marabada and Godfrey Ncube.

Petrotrade (Private) Limited is a private company wholly owned by the Zimbabwe government. It is a successor company to the National Oil Company of Zimbabwe (NOCZIM), created to facilitate the government’s involvement in the oil industry including owning petrol stations and bulk fuel trades.

Timveos, who was a Senator in Midlands, was welcomed at State House by President Mnangagwa after defecting, before being sent to the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, a Zanu PF indoctrination institute.

Obert Gutu, a former MDC-T vice president who also defected, was recently appointed to the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.
