HARARE – The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has voiced “displeasure” after two people were photographed smooching on the mezzanine floor of the bank’s 28-storey building in central Harare.

Pictures of the couple circulated on social media on Monday.

One Twitter user, using the hashtag #FixTheNation posted two images of the couple, writing: “If wifey left in a red skirt and works at RBZ she is cheating on you with someone from work.”

The images appeared to have been taken by someone in another tall building across the street.

The bank reacted with a statement on Tuesday.

Governor John Mangudya said: “The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe wishes to express its displeasure at the images circulating on social media of a and a woman hugging each other on the smoking zone mezzanine floor of the bank building.

“The bank’s high-definition CCTV footages shows that the incident took place between 1708hrs and 1735hrs on June 21, 2021, and that the two people left the building at different times after 1900hrs.”

Mangudya said the pair do not work for the apex bank but are “employees of one of the bank’s service providers.”

“The bank has since advised the service provider of this development and its great disappointment with the behaviour of the duo. The Bank has emphasised to the service provider the need for its staff to always observe bank regulations and Covid-19 protocols,” the central bank chief added.
