HARARE – Women Affairs minister Sithembiso Nyoni lost goods worth US$10,000 after thieves broke into her police-guarded house in Harare, a court heard on Tuesday.

Nyoni was away on July 22 when her police guards discovered there had been a burglary at around 5.45AM.

Prosecutors have charged Justin Nyamakanga Tsodzo, 26, Godfrey Magadu, 27, and Tafadzwa Mupfuurirwa, 22, with unlawful entry and theft.

Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga heard that Nyoni’s caretaker, Clinton Nkala, and Steady Chikwaya from the Police Protection Unit discovered the break-in. Missing was a television set, an Apple Macbook laptop and other household goods with an estimated value of US$10,200.

Highlands police investigating a spate of burglaries in Chisipite arrested the trio on August 18, and the prosecution says they admitted to breaking into the minister’s house. Police recovered some of  the minister’s property with an estimated value of US$3,000.

Taruvinga remanded the three men in custody.
