HARARE – A CIMAS Medical Aid Society nurse was dragged to court on Wednesday for issuing a fake Covid-19 certificate to a bank employee who had approached him for the document.

For the offence, Farai Chimhaka (44) appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda charged with fraud.

He was granted ZW$10 000 bail.

Court heard that on June 22 this year at CIMAS clinic along Chinhoyi Street in Harare, Chimhaka prepared and issued a fake PCR certificate to one Nyasha Sydney Richards.

Richards went on to present the fake document to his superiors at AFC Bank, misrepresenting he was COVID-19 positive.

The bank made a follow up on the results.

However, some CIMAS officials made checks with the medical health insurer only to find that test results shown in the document were fake and that the signature on the document was also fake.

Investigations latter led to the arrest of Chimhaka.
