CHIVHU – Eight people died Saturday in two separate road traffic accidents that occurred in Chivhu and along the highway linking Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.

In an accident that happened in Chivhu, four people died and nine others were injured.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which a Scania Rigid which was carrying thirty passengers veered off the road to the left and landed on its left side at the 3km peg along Hoffman dust road, Chivhu on 20/05/23,” police said Sunday.

“Four people died on arrival at the hospital, while nine people were injured.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Chivhu General Hospital mortuary for post mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.”

In another incident, police confirmed the death of four people in another fatal crash that happened along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road.

The accident also left two people injured.

Police said the “Mazda Demio veered off the road to the right, overturned several times and landed on its roof at the 284km peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road on 20/05/23”.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Hwange Colliery Hospital mortuary whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital,” police said.

The two fatal incidents follow the death of five people Friday in another two separate road traffic accidents which also happened in different parts of the country.

Four died along the Masvingo-Beitbridge road in an accident involving a Toyota Granivia which was carrying 11 passengers at the 234 km peg along Masvingo -Beitbridge Road while a passenger was also killed when a Toyota Townace overturned twice before landing on its right side at the 78 km peg along Harare-Mutare road.

Several were injured in the two accidents.
