HARARE – Four CCC activists were left nursing wounds this week following an attack by alleged Zanu PF supporters in Harare’s Epworth suburb.

They are Agnes Mabhena, Agnes Chiwashira, Rujeko Chipiramhosva and Ndomupei Machoba.

Their alleged attackers were only identified as Ottoman, Tau and Mahachi.

Social media video footage of the victims shows bloodied images of three women and a man grieving the awful aggression.

The incident was reported at Domboramwari Police Station in Epworth under RRB5639026.

A medical report was issued by police for the victims.

Commenting on the incident, CCC aspiring national assembly candidate for Epworth North Zivai Mhetu accused Zanu PF of using violence to intimidate opponents.

“In Epworth North, we have a serious case of Zanu PF electoral manipulation, with violence being used as the main source of intimidation and disenfranchisement of opposition supporters,” he said.

“Last Tuesday, Zanu PF activists unleashed an orgy of violence, intimidation and harassment on established CCC supporters that are Epworth residents.

“These perpetrators are known and we condemn this culture of violence intimidation and harassment being perpetrated by Zanu PF activists to undermine and tarnish the integrity of August 23 elections.

“I urge Zanu PF and other political parties to exercise restraint and also to preach and practice the doctrine of peace to allow aspiring candidates in Epworth and beyond to campaign freely.”

Tensions are high in the country ahead of the August 23 harmonised elections.
