HARARE – The body of late Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Tinashe Chitsunge will spend the weekend in a Harare mortuary as his family says it is awaiting his post-mortem results.

Chitsunge allegedly died in a hail of stones by suspected Zanu PF supporters on Thursday.

Government said Friday that 12 suspects have since been arrested over the unfortunate incident.

Initial police investigations have pointed to death partially caused by a truck that crushed his head as he tried to flee the Zanu PF mob which pelted him and other party supporters with stones.

The truck was carrying a group of CCC activists who were carrying out some election campaigns in Glenview 7.

In an update over the activist’s burial, CCC aspiring legislator for Glenview South, Grandmore Hakata said he was in touch with the family which is reportedly awaiting postmortem results likely to be obtained this coming Monday.

“We have held a meeting with Chitsunge’s family and they said the issue of postmortem is delaying progress; so, we are still waiting.

“We will be here until Monday when postmortem has been done. After post-mortem, we will be going to his rural home in Buhera where he will be buried.

“According to the family, specialists who do postmortem on people who tragically lose their lives like Chitsunge are only four.

‘Postmortem will be done by one person, but the process is only done on Mondays and Thursdays. It’s likely that an examination on his body will be carried out on Monday,” said Hakata.

The party is currently providing food and other necessities for mourners at the late activist’s home.

“We will make sure that food is available, and anything else needed for the funeral. We are also organising transport to ferry mourners to and from Buhera,” he said.

Hakata applauded police for carrying out arrests but was dismayed the number of suspects was low.

When ZimLive visited Chitsinge’s residence in Glenview 7, hundreds of supporters were gathered while singing at the spot he died.

CCC supporters could not hide their anger for losing a comrade in the cruel form.

They demanded more arrests from the police.

Chitsunge is among some party activists who have died allegedly in the hands of Zanu PF supporters in recent months.

Mboneni Ncube was killed at a rally in Kwekwe last year while Moreblessing Ali was murdered in cold blood allegedly by a Zanu PF member, Pius Jamba in May last year.

Justice is yet to be served in both cases.
