A Bulawayo Councillor Gideon Mangena has expressed concerns over the increase in the number of cases where residents encountered stray dogs which bite them.

According to latest council meeting Mangena during fil council meeting noted with concern that there had been an increase in the reported cases of dog bites in the city.

“There seemed to be some laxity on issue of stray dogs which were posing danger to residents and the general public. There was need to enforce the relevant by – laws particularly on the number of dogs permitted per household,” reads the minutes.

“The matter had been a major talking point during budget consultation in his ward (ward 6) Nketa in July 2017 as people voiced concern at the menace of stray dogs.

“Other Councillors concurred pointing out the need for tighter controls. It was noted that Councillors also had a role to educate residents in their respective wards and to remind them of their obligation to ensure strict observance of by-laws and regulations relating to dogs.”
