HARARE – Dynamos twice had the ball at the back of the net but were disappointed when both efforts were disallowed by match officials to end a fast-paced Castle Lager Match Day 18 premiership clash between the Harare giants and Hwange goalless at Barbourfields on Sunday.

Dynamos, the home side of the day, started the match strong and could have scored a goal or more had their forwards been more accurate in front of goal.

The Harare giants thought they had broken the deadlock midway into the first half but were unfortunate after the referee disallowed the effort for an infringement on the Hwange goalkeeper.

The same thing would happen again on the hour mark with the verdict similar from the match officials.

Hwange, who were dominated by their hosts in the first half, came back a more determined outfit in the second half and had their own moments in enemy territory that could have changed their luck in the game.

In a post-match interview, Dynamos head coach Herbert Maruwa admitted Hwange were a tough nut to crack, adding that he was happy with the point gained from the draw.

“We tried to penetrate and it was difficult but at the end, the point is going to add value at the end of the day,” Maruwa said.

“They (Hwange) did very well. Their game plan was that they were going to hit us on counter attacks.

“So, were are aware they were going to do. Their crosses were very dangerous, but we are happy with this result.”

Hwange coach Nation Dube also said his side was targeting anything other than a defeat.

“We said in this game, we don’t have to lose; it’s either we get a win or a draw because we are coming from a defeat and we were saying these guys (Dynamos) are high flying. They are coming from a 5-1 win over Yadah.

“We said a draw or win, that’s the result we were going to look for,” he said.

Meanwhile, in another Match Day 18 clash played at Gibbo, third placed Manica Diamonds compounded Caps United’s woes after beating the Harare side 2-0.

Herentals also battled to a 2-2 draw against Triangle at Mandava Stadium to complete Week 18 round of fixtures.

With all teams having played their matches weekend, Highlanders remain on top of the premiership table with 38 points to their name.

Ngezi Platinum are second on 33 while Manica Diamonds kept their third spot on 32 points.

Dynamos are fourth on 29 while Chicken Inn and FC Platinum are fifth and sixth on 28 and 26 points respectively.
