HARARE – FC Platinum’s newfound impetus in the current premiership race comes under test this weekend when the four-time-in-a-row champions play Caps United whose tails are high after a 3-1 demolition of Arenel Movers on Sunday.

Norman Mapeza’s men have been joined by Highlanders as early pacesetters of the 2024 Zimbabwe premiership marathon with both sides interestingly tied on 10 points while also sharing the same goal difference, same number of goals scored and conceded.

But before they could be considered as title favourites again, FC Platinum need to deal with the potential hurdle in the Lloyd Chitembwe coached side, keen to restore its yesteryear glory as perennial campaigners for domestic football’s biggest prize.

The two sides meet at Mandava stadium in Zivishavane on Saturday in the headline fixture of Week 5 of the Castle Lager premiership race.

In other matches to be played Saturday, Arenel Movers take on fellow debutants Bikita Minerals at Luveve while unpredictable ZPC Kariba date lukewarm Herentals College at Nyamhunga.

Green Fuel are at home to reigning champions Ngezi Platinum at Green Fuel arena while Yadah and Simba Bhora lock horns at a venue yet to be decided.

On Sunday, traditional giants Highlanders look having an easy assignment at home to Chegutu Pirates at Barbourfields.

The same could however not be true for fellow giants Dynamos who take on tricky opponents Bulawayo Chiefs at a venue that was yet to be decided Tuesday night.

Manica Diamonds are at home to Chicken Inn at Sakubva while coal miners Hwange host TelOne at the Colliery to complete the weekend diary of premiership fixtures.
