HARARE – Zimbabwe football giants Highlanders, Dynamos and Caps United produced lackluster performances in weekend matches with all of them firing blanks in identical nil-all draws.
Reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum were worst of the heavyweight pack after suffering a 2-0 defeat to fellow platinum miners Ngezi Platinum at Baobab on Sunday.
First to disappoint was Dynamos who played to a goalless draw with neighbours Herentals in a Match Day 9 clash of the current premiership race played at the National Sports Stadium Saturday.
The match saw a section of Dembare fans react violently to proceedings in the encounter.
It was the second successive week that the once mighty club failed to score in a premiership encounter after firing blanks in their clash against Triangle last weekend.
Although still unbeaten in the current premiership marathon, Highlanders also connived to disappoint after producing a goalless draw against Simba Bhora in front of home fans in Bulawayo.
Bosso also drew nil-all against Triangle last week.
Likewise, Caps United were not left out of the conspiracy, also producing a goalless draw against visiting Hwange at the National Sports Stadium Sunday.
The goal drought among the country’s three biggest teams can best be illustrated by that in the six matches they have played against their respective opponents over the last two weekends, only one goal has been scored by Caps in their 1-0 victory against Yadah last week.
Meanwhile, in another match played Sunday, Triangle played to a 1-1 draw with Yadah at Gibbo.
On Saturday, in-form Bulawayo Chiefs beat Sheasham 2-0 at Luveve while Manica Diamonds also beat Chicken Inn by an identical scoreline.
In an earlier kick-off played Friday, Cranborne Bullets beat Green Fuel 1-0.
