HARARE – Peter Dube, a fugitive who was wanted for three murders committed in Gweru in 2021, finally landed in the hands of police folloing his deportation from Mozambique, where he lived under a false identity.

Dube, the suspect in the murder of three people including his second wife, was in Ireland where he was claiming to be a refugee and living in the Red Cow asylum centre in Dublin.

He had entered the European country under the alias, Xolile Mtsali before he was arrested by Gardai in June 2023 after allegedly evading authorities for over two years.

The suspect was first deported to Mozambique where he initially fled to, under a false name.

Dube had claimed that he was a Mozambican citizen.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed that Dube had been deported from Mozambique because of fake national identity and passport documents.

Dube is alleged to have shot dead the suspected lover of his second wife Nyasha Nharingo in Gweru in April 2021.

Nyasha’s friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe was also shot and killed in the deadly incident, while her sister Nyaradzo also died in the hospital after being shot.

Zimbabwean authorities had been in touch with Interpol which resulted in him being put on the ‘Red Notice’ list.

Last year, police claimed that his false identity documents were produced by a syndicate operating in South Africa and Eswatini.

Dube used the fake documents when he appeared in court in Ireland before his conviction for flouting immigration laws.
