HARARE – Newly-elected Harare deputy mayor Kudzai Kadzombe has been arrested facing assault against a Zanu PF member during the country’s recent harmonised elections.

CCC deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba confirmed the politician’s arrest.

“The newly elected Harare City Deputy Mayor Cllr Kudzai Kadzombe has been arrested by Malborough Police Station.

“She is being charged with assaulting a Zanu PF member in Malborough during the recent harmonized elections.

“She will appear at Harare Rotten Row Magistrate Court tomorrow Friday 8.15am.”

Kadzombe joins a growing list of opposition politicians who are being targeted for arrests under what is widely perceived to be a renewed crackdown on opponents by the Emmerson Mnangagwa led regime.

Sunningdale legislator Maureen Kademaunga was arrested early this week charged with three counts of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

The charges were quashed when the 38-year-old politician was taken to court on Wednesday.

Siziba also faces charges of violence incitement linked to unrest among football fans during the high-profile premiership clash between Dynamos and Highlanders at Barbourfields last Sunday.

Equally, losing CCC candidate for Chirumhanzu, Patrick Cheza is languishing in remand prison after he allegedly bashed his Zanu PF opponent Barbra Rwodzi when the rivals had a bust-up at a road accident scene involving their vehicles a day after the August 23 election.

The opposition has condemned what it says is a targeted onslaught on its members by the Zanu PF led government.
