HARARE – A gang driving in a Honda Fit vehicle is deliberately causing accidents in Harare and then robbing motorists in the target vehicles, police said on Wednesday.

Police said they were investigating two such incidents, including one in which a motorist lost US$27,000 cash.

In a statement, police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “In one of the incidents, a motorist travelling in a Toyota Mark X vehicle was hit from behind by a Honda Fit on April 9 at the corner of Hurtsview Drive and Lantana Way in Ridgeview.

“Three suspects armed with a hammer attacked the motorist before stealing the Mark X vehicle.

“A day earlier, on April 8, at around 9.30PM, a motorist lost US$27,300 cash after the Toyota Mark X he was driving was hit from behind by a Honda Fit along Derby Road in Avondale.”

Police are on the hunt for the criminals, Nyathi said.
