HARARE – Lyon striker Tino Kadewere is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his troublesome thigh on Wednesday.

“Everything went very well and our striker will be back as soon as possible to prepare for next season,” a statement from PPM agency which represents the player said.

The French side who can finish third in Ligue 1 ahead of the final round of matches this weekend are notoriously secretive about the exact nature of injuries to their players, but Kadewere missed several matches this season after complaining of muscle discomfort in one of his thighs.

Kadewere made 33 appearances for Lyon this season, starting in 24 of the matches.

The Zimbabwe international scored seven goals in the first half of the season but managed just three in 2021.

Signed from Le Havre, Kadewere slotted on the left wing in a front three alongside Memphis Depay and Karl Toko Ekembi. The trio, known as “KTM”, made Lyon the second most prolific team in the league with 79 goals scored in 37 matches.
