HARARE – Sports minister Kirsty Coventry and her husband, Tyrone Seward, have been named in a plot to grab a farm from former President Robert Mugabe’s nephew.

Robert Zhuwao has approached the High Court to stop the takeover of his 232ha Cockington Farm in Darwendale, 62km west of Harare in Mashonaland West province.

In the court papers, Zhuwao says he was given 30 days to wind up operations by the minister, a former Olympic champion swimmer.

Zhuwao, through his lawyers Machekano Law Practice, said he is currently recovering from brain surgery in Zambia, where he has been living since 2018, months after his uncle was ousted in a military coup.

Robert, named after his uncle Robert Mugabe, is the second Zhuwao to be dispossessed of a farm after his brother Patrick’s mechanised farm was also put under notice last year.

Robert and Patrick are sons of the late Sabina Mugabe.

I the court papers filed at the High Court on June 5, Robert says the ministry of lands and agriculture recently withdrew his offer letter for the farm, a decision which he has challenged in court.

He argues that authorities cannot redistribute his farm to Coventry and Seward before the offer letter dispute is resolved.

Lands minister Perrance Shiri is also cited as a responded in the High Court papers.
