BULAWAYO – Magwegwe MP Anele Ndebele (MDC) has been arrested accused of rape after a schoolgirl fell pregnant.

The 47-year-old is accused of raping the teenager after promising to pay for her holiday lessons.

The alleged sex attacks happened in April and May, said police spokesman Paul Nyathi.

“The matter is under investigation and the accused is assisting us with investigations,” Nyathi told The Chronicle.

The newspaper, citing sources, reported that Ndebele first met the alleged victim in March at Kezi business centre and they spoke, during which time the teenager told the MP that she was Upper Sixth pupil at a school in the district.

The MP met the girl a second time in April and allegedly raped her after she giving her R100 and promising to pay for her holiday lessons.

A month later, in May, he allegedly met up with the schoolgirl again and drove to a construction site where the second attack happened.

The alleged victim went to the police after discovering she was pregnant.
