HARARE – Popular musician Progress Chipfumo has been dragged to court for reckless driving following an incident in which he rammed onto another motorist’s vehicle while driving along Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.

Chipfumo appeared in court Tuesday accused of contravening section 52 (2) (2) of the Road Traffic Act.

He was released on free bail and will be back in court on June 7 for trial.

According to the state, on March 19, 2023, Chipfumo was driving due west along Samora Machel Avenue.

While driving in the inner lane, he suddenly changed lanes intending to park in a parking bay on his left.

“The accused did not check if the road was clear to change lanes and he went on to change lanes from the inner lane turning left where he intended to park his vehicle.

“The accused person then collided with a Nissan Cube driven by Shepherd Pazara due west along Samora Machel,” prosecutors said.

No one was injured but Chipfumo’s car sustained damages on the left front door, left front bumper and fender.

Pazara’s car was damaged in the front.

According to the State, Chipfumo was negligent in that he failed to make a proper check of the road ahead.

“Chipfumo failed to exercise caution when changing lanes and that he failed to stop or act reasonably when the collision seemed imminent,” said prosecutors.
