HARARE – Ngezi Platinum beat Sheasham 2-1 at Baobab Wednesday to inch just three points – or less – closer to clinching their maiden title with three games left to play in the 2023 Castle Lager premiership marathon.

In a Match Day 31 fixture, Ngezi Platinum took full advantage of the slip by inconsistent Dynamos to extend their point tally to 60.

Two second half strikes by Takunda Benhura and Claude Mapoka gave the league leaders maximum points and put them in good position to bag the domestic game’s most coveted prize.

Liberty Masveure got the consolation for the Gweru side.

A win in their next fixture weekend will give the platinum miners an unassailable 63 points.

Second placed Manica Diamonds, who beat Simba Bhora 1-0 in another match played at Gibbo, are on 53 and the highest they can go is just 62 points.

Ngezi can still win the title without even a single victory from their last three fixtures if their close opponents drop points along the way.

In the headline fixture of Match Day 31, Dynamos continued with their lackluster performance after playing to a goalless draw with champions FC Platinum at Mandava.

The former champions are now sitting third on the league standings and could lose their position to rivals Highlanders – on 49 points – who fulfil their Match Day 31 fixture away to Triangle at Gibbo this Thursday.

In other matches played Wednesday, Herentals beat Cranborne Bullets 2-1 to compound the relegation haunted basement side’s relegation woes at the National Sports Stadium.

At Luveve, Chicken Inn shared the spoils with Green Fuel in a 1-1 draw while Black Rhinos beat Yadah 1-0 to remind the Anointing Boys they were still a small outfix after emerging from a 6-0 massacre of ZPC Kariba this past weekend.

At Nyamhunga stadium, power was restored on ZPC Kariba who beat on-and-off Hwange 1-0.
