BUHERA – At least six people died while 18 others were injured Saturday when an Isuzu lorry in which they were travelling was involved in a head-on-collision with a Nissan Diesel truck along Murambinda-Betera Road.

Police confirmed the tragedy.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 25/03/23 along Murambinda – Betera Road, near Mugombe Primary School, in which six people died while 18 others were injured when an Isuzu lorry with 40 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a Nissan Diesel truck which had one passenger on board.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Murambinda Hospital mortuary for postmortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

“The police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident,” police said Sunday via the organisation’s official social media handle.

Also posting on Twitter, Information Ministry secretary Nick Mangwana said the accident victims were Zanu PF supporters.

“A lorry carrying Zanu PF supporters was involved in an accident along Murambinda-Birchnough Bridge road.

“Three people died on the spot whilst the other three died at Murambinda Hospital to make six deaths.

“The other 17 have serious injuries and are in hospital,” he said.

The accident victims are believed to have been coming from voting in party primary elections that were held this weekend.
