DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – Tanzanian President John Magufuli questioned the legitimacy of a degree accorded to a ministerial appointee who thrice failed to read his oath of office.
Francis Ndulane was dropped as deputy minister for minerals after the embarrassing incident December 9 incident, local media reported.
“We will look for someone who can properly read the documents entering his office and unveil whether there are forgeries,” Magufuli told journalists as he swore in 22 ministers and their deputies.
Ndulane reportedly possess a degree in Science (Finance).
The Citizen reported that Ndulane “failed to properly articulate the written oath even after three successive attempts to do so.”
Magufuli encouraged the Kilwa North MP “to continue serving his political constituents in Parliament and outside it,” the newspaper said, “but he also noted that the MP still needs to have his academic qualifications verified.”
The Tanzanian leader has appointed Professor Shukrani Manya as the new deputy minister for minerals.
Magufuli won a second term in office last month.
