FORT RIXON – A 19-year-old Fort Rixon teenager was Sunday stabbed to death allegedly by a 17-year-old juvenile who was reportedly incensed by the deceased’s attempts to stop a brawl he was having with another youth over a 15-year-old girlfriend.

Police confirmed Tuesday they were investing the shock incident.

“Police in Fort Rixon are investigating a case of murder which occurred on 2 July 2023 at Wessels Village 1, PBS in which Mthokozisi Sibanda, 19, died after being stabbed on the chest with an okapi knife by a 17-year-old male juvenile.

“The victim had intervened to stop a fight between the suspect and Gift Moyo, 20, who were fighting over a girlfriend, 15.”

The incident follows numerous incidents of recent killings among Zimbabwean teenagers often as a result of gang wars and fights over girlfriends.

In February this year, a 16-year-old schoolboy from Founders High School in Bulawayo was stabbed to death after confronting two other pupils from a neighbouring school for bullying his friend.

Wayne Ndlovu, a Form 4 student, was stabbed on the neck and was pronounced dead on arrival at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

Police later arrested two schoolboys from Hamilton High School charged with his murder.

In April, two Mazowe boys both aged 15, were taken in for murder following a stabbing incident involving a 25-year-old man who had confronted them for talking to his girlfriend.

Police identified the victim as Nisadi Maruza who was stabbed with a steel rod on the chest and back after an argument at Nduna Shops, SAS Mine, Mazowe on 7 April at around midnight.
