HARARE – Zimbabwe international right-back Tendayi Darikwa has left English Championship side Nottingham Forest for League One side Wigan Athletic until the end of the season.
Nottingham Forest said on its website: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that defender Tendayi Darikwa has joined League One side Wigan Athletic until the end of the season. The club would like to thank Tendayi for his efforts and wish him well for the future.”
Darikwa, who spent two seasons without a Championship appearance for Forest, took to Twitter and wrote: “From a young age, I wanted to play for this football club. I’m thankful and grateful for the opportunity to do that. Not the way I imagined it ending but that’s life. Thank you to everyone for the love and support during my time here, especially through last season’s injury Red heart.”
Darikwa has not been in action for The Reds since March last year after he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
The 29-year-old Warriors right back has of late struggled for game time after bouncing back at the end of the season.
Wigan Athletic welcomed Darikwa in a club statement: “We are delighted to welcome Tendayi Darikwa to Latics on a short-term contract until the end of the season!”
Darikwa has over 200 English Football League appearances having previously played for Chesterfield before progressing to play for Burnley and Nottingham Forest.
